Text description provided by the architects. An hour and a half car ride from the Tijuana/San Diego area, and 25 minutes away from Valle de Guadalupe, we find the growing city of Ensenada, in Baja California, México, with one of the most important seaport and vacation spot of the region. In this municipality lies Plaza Internacional, a project by graciastudio, concluded in 2013.
Situated in the commercial and touristic heart of the locality, with one of the main avenues running by its side, this is a commercial building of 600 square meters approximately, compounded by 9 spaces destined for lease and common areas. In this project, the main structure serves as well as a finish, simplifying the constructive process to economize. Steel is used for the primary structure, and glass and wood as a finish for the facades. Wood parasols placed on the frontage of the building, oriented towards the east and west, facing the back street as well as the inner court of the complex, are used to control sunlight, temperature, noise and privacy in the interior of the edifice, along with the wood finish on exterior walls.
In Plaza Internacional the commercial and publicity use is mixed, being pioneers in the incorporation of billboards into the building’s very own structure, with a total height of 15 meters and four advertising spaces towards all directions, offering a 360 perspective of the building at a great distance.
